Electrostatic Powder Coating
Electrostatic powder coating is a type of coating applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike conventional wet paints applied via an evaporating solvent, powder coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat. Powder coatings can be thermoplastic or thermoset polymers. They are generally used to create a harder and more durable finish than conventional paints. Since it is easier to apply than wet paint, it is economical.
Applicable Standards
We carry out our powder coating work in accordance with the MIL-C-46168 standard and customer specifications. Our company provides ASELSAN-approved coating and painting services . For all our services and standards, see our brochure (in Turkish) .
Powder Coating Process
- Surface preparation: degreasing and, as required, sandblasting or, for aluminum, chromate conversion coating as pre-paint preparation.
- Masking: threads, press-fit and electrical contact surfaces are protected.
- Electrostatic application: the powder is applied to the part electrostatically.
- Curing: the paint is cured in an oven to form a hard, durable film.
- Inspection: appearance and thickness are checked.
Advantages
- Thick, uniform film resistant to impact and abrasion
- Solvent-free, environmentally friendly application
- Wide range of colors and finishes (matte, semi-matte, gloss, textured)
Design Considerations
A powder coating film is thicker than wet paint; press-fit surfaces and threads should be masked or the coating allowance should be taken into account. Because it requires oven curing, wet painting may be more suitable for heat-sensitive parts and assemblies. We recommend specifying the color code (RAL), gloss level, required thickness and surfaces to be masked in the technical drawing. Details (in Turkish): Coating notes on technical drawings.
