Wet Painting
Wet painting is applied by spraying liquid paint onto metal surfaces with compressed air. A suitable primer is applied to the surfaces before wet painting. Before priming, a suitable coating must be applied to the metal surfaces to improve adhesion performance. There are various types of water-based and solvent-based wet paints. The paint can be applied to all surfaces of your products, or unwanted areas can be masked.
Applicable Standards

Wet Painting Process
- Surface preparation: degreasing and, if required, sandblasting or, for aluminum, chromate conversion coating.
- Masking: areas not to be painted are protected.
- Primer: a primer is applied for adhesion and corrosion resistance.
- Topcoat: the topcoat is applied in the required color and gloss.
- Drying and inspection: film thickness and appearance are checked.
When to Choose Wet Painting?
- Heat-sensitive parts and assemblies that are not suitable for oven curing
- Precision parts requiring a thin film thickness
- Defense and aerospace projects that specify a particular paint system (e.g. epoxy primer + polyurethane topcoat)
- Complex geometries that powder coating struggles to reach
What to Specify in the Technical Drawing
Paint system (primer and topcoat), color code (e.g. RAL or FED-STD-595), gloss, dry film thickness and surfaces to be masked. We recommend sharing the paint requirements in your project specification at the quotation stage. For details, see our coating guide (in Turkish) .
